I interviewed three generations of people descended from Massasoit Ousamequin. They tell me the term Wampanoag did not appear until the Indigenous people lost the King Philip&#039;s War in the 1670s. I do not know how many different tribes there were, but that 69 figure seems a bit high to me. You might try contacting Plimoth * Patuxet to see if somewhere knows more than I do.]]></description>
