Thanks for your efforts, Nancie. One of the few things in life I'm sure about is this: Family life is messy. We can't live full and healthy lives without intimate connections with a small core of people, people we call family. However, often figuring how and how often to connect with those folks gets confusing and challenging. But then, that provides more material for another book some day. All the best on getting your book out there.

Kathy, thank you for the opportunity to be a guest blogger. I enjoyed writing this entry, and I hope that the book can help others know that things can turn out well even though we don't expect them to play out in the way they may. I hope, too, that people think to bridge any gaps in communication or connection that may exist between those they love before it's too late. In some cases, it may do nothing more than verify that the disconnects are there for good reasons, but I believe that there is far more to gain in most cases.

Thank you, Julie, for sharing it with your memoir critique group. And thank you for finding the post helpful. I found that some of my own "truths" were not whole, while others were validated. At the end of it all, I learned that hearing another person's story costs nothing and may be extremely helpful in writing your own.

Nancie - you are to be commended for the courage to put your later-in-life circumstances in print. I believe your book is going to help many whose lives didn't unfold quit as anticipated.

Kathy and Nancie: This is a lovely post. Thank you for sharing it. I plan to pass it along to my memoir critique group. The lesson in the post--that different people have different memories and that none of us know the whole and complete truth--is a valuable one for memoir writers. Nancie, your book sounds fun and interesting. Good luck with it!
